After heavy rain hit the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo last Friday (21) and left thousands of residents without access to electricity, an error in the procedure for reconnecting electricity caused problems for residents of a condominium in the West Zone of São Paulo.
Dealership technicians Enel-SP, when trying to solve the power outage in the building, they mistakenly changed the electrical voltage level from 127V to 220V, which resulted in the residents' electrical appliances burning out, causing significant damage.
The company has not yet reported the reasons for the error, but stated that it will contact the affected condominium and that it will reimburse customers who had damage found on their electronic devices.
On Friday (20), around 660 thousand customers were left without power in Greater São Paulo due to heavy rains – a number that was reduced to 130 thousand on Saturday (21). This Sunday (22), Enel-SP announced that 35,7 thousand homes are still waiting for electricity to return.
According to the concessionaire, in addition to the storm, the interruption in supply was also caused by common events in the energy distribution routine, such as cars crashing into poles and interference from vegetation in the electrical grid.
By the end of Sunday afternoon, the city of São Paulo had 28 thousand consumers without electricity, followed by Mauá (2,1 thousand people without power), Ribeirão Pires (1,5 thousand), and Santo André (1,4 thousand).
In total, the Fire Department received 111 calls for fallen trees due to the rain. Traffic in the capital of São Paulo also broke records, with more than 600 km of traffic jams due to a series of floods.
“The company activated its contingency plan in advance, with reinforcement of teams in the field, who will continue working 24 hours a day to rebuild the damaged sections of the network and restore service to all customers,” Enel-SP said in a statement.
