The use of composting stands out for reducing the emission of polluting gases and properly disposing of waste. However, the process of converting wet waste into compost, if carried out in a unit that consumes electricity and not in a bin (manually), can increase the electricity bill and leave a carbon footprint.
To solve this problem, Indian engineers Rutvick Pedamkar and Sandip Patil from Thane district in Maharashtra developed low-cost composting units that run on solar energy.
“An electric composter needs energy for the drying, grinding and cooling process. Therefore, to avoid burning the environment, we designed units with solar panels that produce electricity from the sun”, explains Rutvick Pedamkar, one of the founders of Klimrus Sustainable Solution, the company responsible for the project.
Pedamkar also highlights that the cost of the unit is 50% lower than conventional. “Our 50 kg capacity unit costs one lakh (around Rs 7.200). While another with the same capacity costs an average of four lakhs (around R$30.000),” he commented.
According to engineers, another advantage of the system is that it does not require maintenance. “Also, if there is not enough sunlight in your home, solar panels can be installed on the terrace. The smallest unit produces up to 200 W, while a 500 kilogram system can generate 2 kW,” concluded Pedamkar.

Good afternoon, I would like to know more about the composter, is it available for sale?
