Bill wants to allow the use of FGTS to purchase solar systems  

Initiative aims to authorize workers to use up to 50% of the balance available in the guarantee fund; Chamber of Deputies will discuss the proposal

Um bill, which is under analysis at Câmara dos Deputados, would you like authorize the worker Brazilian to use up to 50% of the available balance in your accounts from FGTS every five years for the acquisition and installation of solar energy systems in their homes.

A measure would be valid for owned or rented homes, provided that there is consent from the owner in the case of rented properties. The text was authored by federal deputy Marcos Tavares (PDT-RJ). 

The parliamentarian justifies the proposal by claiming that initiative has the potential to encourage the use of renewable energy and at the same time offer economic benefits to workers.

“Facilitate access to solar energy through the use of FGTS resources can democratize access to sustainable energy solutions, allowing more people to invest in clean energy, regardless of their ability to investment immediate”, justifies the document. 

The text also claims that the promotion of solar energy, in addition to contributing to the reduction of emissions greenhouse gases, also can represent a significant reduction in electricity bills for Brazilian families. 

“By investing in solar energy systems, workers also increase their energy autonomy, reducing dependence on energy suppliers and the vulnerabilities associated with energy price and supply fluctuations.”

Next Steps

A proposal will be analyzed, conclusively, by the committees of Labor; Finance and Taxation; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship of the Chamber of Deputies. To become law, the text also needs to be approved by deputies and senators.

If this occurs, the The use of FGTS must be made directly in the payment to the company supplying the equipment of solar energy, which must be duly certified by the competent regulatory bodies, as provided for in the bill.
