Among the January and April, but of seven thousand companies connected to medium and high voltage migrated to the Free Energy Market, according data of HUG (Brazilian Association of Electric Energy Traders).

They phenomenon is motivated, mainly, for the possibility of saving up to 40% on your energy bill. However, this modality also has another attraction which has attracted companies: the possibility of reducing CO2 emissions.

This because, when migrating to the Free Energy Market, a company can have certainty that all the energy you consume comes from renewable sources, such as solar and wind, something impossible when you are in the captive market.

If desired, the companies caninclusive obtain an international renewable energy certificate, i-REC, for its acronym in English, which are nothing more than traceable documents, highly reliable and recognized worldwide.

A Tyr Energy, retail trader in the state of Rio de Janeiro, calculates that its Free Energy Market customers will no longer emit 18 thousand tons of CO2 in 2023. This is equivalent to the carbon capture of 2,5 million trees during the same period.

To arrive at this number, a comparison was made with the amount of CO2 that these companies would have avoided if they were still in the captive market, which uses the energy mix provided by the SIN (National Interconnected System), including sources of fossil origin.

In addition to using renewable sources, the Free Energy Market stimulates energy efficiency. With the installation of smart meters, consumers can monitor energy consumption in real time.

Second Eduardo Miranda, founding partner of Tyr Energia, this brings transparency and helps to rationalize the way energy is consumed. Monitoring through digitalization also allows you to identify opportunities and changes in habits.

“The greenest energy is that which is not consumed. Brazil has made progress in this direction, but there is a long way to go. And digitalization is a decisive tool to become more energy efficient,” he said.

According to Miranda, the modality is the gateway to a revolution in the way consumers interact with electrical energy. He cites examples from places like Texas, in the United States.

“Thanks to a well-developed and regulated Free Energy Market, the American state has been able to direct its economy towards significant reductions in emissions and create an environment of technological innovation that is today seen as a global reference”, he highlighted.
