As reported by Canal Solar, the Brazil surpassed the mark of 4 million UCs (consumer units) supplied by solar energy in the DG segment (distributed generation) last week.
This Friday (23), however, data released by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association) reveal that all this volume currently represents 4,5% of the total number of electrical energy consuming units in the captive market Brazilian (92,4 million).
This scenario, in the entity's assessment, demonstrates a enormous potential for growth in the use of photovoltaic technology in the national territory.
“The 4 million electricity bills met by distributed solar energy should be celebrated, as the sector follows a good growth curve, driven mainly by the drop of more than 50% in the price of equipment only in 2023”, said Ronaldo Koloszuk, chairman of the board of directors of ABSOLAR.
The executive highlights that the Brazil is still far behind many other countries in this aspect. “In Australia, for example, this supply reaches more than 30% of the units in that nation”, he highlights.
Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR, added that the growth of own solar generation expands Brazil's protagonism in the geopolitics of the global energy transition, strengthening sustainability, relieving family budgets and increasing the competitiveness of productive sectors.
“Solar generation close to consumption locations reduces the use of transmission infrastructure, relieves pressure on water resources, reduces electrical losses over long distances and contributes to greater autonomy and power of choice for consumers. Additionally, it reduces emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases, contributing to the protection of the environment,” he said.
