As climate goals global triple renewable energy e double energy efficiency can be achieved by 2030, according to the report released this Tuesday (24) by IEA (International Energy Agency).
The report was released during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, while the New York Climate Week.
The full implementation of the energy targets set in the COP28, in December 2023 in Dubai, can reduce gas emissions greenhouse effect and accelerate the transformation of the global energy sector.
What was established at COP28?
Na COP28, almost 200 countries agreed in achieving net zero emissions from the energy sector to 2050, Do the fossil fuel transition, triple renewable energy capacity e double energy efficiency by 2030, in addition to accelerating the implementation of other technologies low emission.
What does the report say?
The IEA report shows the feasibility of tripling renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency, although it depends on support such as international efforts to establish favorable conditions and use of UAE Consensus for NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions) under the Paris Agreement.
Second Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA, the goals could be transformative for the global energy sector, with a fast track to a safer, more accessible and sustainable future. “To ensure that the world does not miss this great opportunity, the focus must quickly shift to implementation"He says.
“A greater international cooperation it is vital to provide adequate networks, energy storage sufficient energy and faster electrification, which are essential to move clean energy transitions quickly and safely,” concludes Birol.
The report further states that the goals can be achieved thanks to to the favorable economy, broad manufacturing potential and strong policies, although increased renewable energy capacity alone would not reduce fossil fuel use and costs to consumers.
For these reductions to happen, countries need to make a concerted effort to build and modernize 25 million kilometers of electricity grids by 2030.
It is also necessary 1,5 TW of storage capacity of energy by 2030, of which 1,2 TW need to come from battery storage, a 15-fold increase over the current level.
One of the more thorough and specific approach for each country, potentially would reduce global energy costs by almost 10%The emissions by 6,5 billion tons e would strengthen energy security two countries.
The report concludes that to achieve the goals, it is necessary for governments focus on electrification, since doubling efficiency requires increasing the share of electricity in global energy consumption to 30% by 2030.
We also pack any fully achieve the COP28 targets for renewable energy and efficiency would cut global emissions by 10 billion tons 2030 up.
