More than 10 thousand families from communities in remote areas of Marajó (PA) will be served by the More Light for the Amazon Program over the next two years. The contract was signed this Friday (9) by President Jair Bolsonaro, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, and the Minister of State for Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves.
Equatorial Pará, the State's energy distributor - which has been providing services, interconnecting Marajó, with investments of almost R$400 million - will be able, from now on, to begin projects, works and services for the installation of photovoltaic distributed generation systems for the Marajoara population who still do not have access to electricity and are far from distribution networks.
According to the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), energy will enable the promotion of activities aimed at increasing family income, the sustainable use of the region's natural resources, environmental preservation, settlement and the inclusion of traditional communities.
“We are honored to participate in this moment, as we have the role of bringing energy to enable the State’s growth. And Mais Luz para a Amazônia, which will start in Pará, will serve thousands of families located in remote areas. Without a doubt, it will be another important milestone that will bring us even more satisfaction in contributing assertively to development”, highlighted Augusto Miranda, president of the Equatorial Energia Group.
In total, the program will serve more than 350 people and approximately 82 connections will be made in the North of the country, with investments of more than R$3 billion. The MEE also emphasized that, after the installation of electricity, the communities will be able to receive other public policies, such as the construction of health centers, schools and other actions. In September, as reported by Canal Solar, the MME and Equatorial Pará signed the first term of commitment for the implementation of the program.
