A Green Energy Park, a green ammonia producer based in Croatia, and Solation, a Spanish renewable energy company with several investments in Brazil, announced that they will invest R$200 billion to to produce green hydrogen na ZPE (Export Processing Zone) do Piauí, located in Parnaíba, on the coast of Piauí.

According to information from the government of Piauí, it will be one of the largest green hydrogen projects in the world, which will use solar and wind energy with a forecast of 20 GW of installed power. Work on the plants should begin at the end of 2024 and the first stage is expected to be completed in 2027, followed by the following stages until 2035. The forecast is that 20 thousand jobs will be created.

“These investments will boost the economy of Piauí and bring countless benefits to our state, to entrepreneurs and the population, with new opportunities for business, work, employment and income”, said the governor of Piauí, Rafael Fonteles, during the laying of the foundation stones of the projects last Friday (15).

“And Piauí will also become the ideal place for the installation of industries that want to produce green products, such as green steel, green fertilizers etc. From an environmental point of view, this project will have global repercussions”, he added.

Hydrogen is a fuel widely used in industry to fertilizer production. However, most of the hydrogen that is produced in the world uses natural gas as its primary fuel.

Green hydrogen uses less water than blue hydrogen, report finds

O green hydrogen replaces gas with renewable energy sources. as the Brazil there is a 84% renewable electrical matrix, the country must attract many investments for the production of green hydrogen, considered the vector of energy transition.

Hydrogen has great potential to decarbonize industries in various segments, mainly transportation, one of the main emitters of gases that cause global warming.
