Hitachi Energy announced an investment of R$ 385 million to expand the production of components used in power transformers in Brazil. The resources will be allocated to the installation of a new industrial unit in Pindamonhangaba (SP) and to the expansion of the manufacturing of insulating materials in Guarulhos (SP).

The new facility will be dedicated to the production of bushings and commutators, components used in the operation of transformers, and will be located next to the industrial complex that the company is already building in Pindamonhangaba (SP).

According to the company, the expansion of domestic production aims to reduce dependence on components imported from Europe and Asia, as well as to meet the demand of customers in Brazil and other Latin American countries.

The investment also anticipates the creation of more than 120 direct jobs in the two locations, according to Alexandre Malveiro, head of Hitachi's LATAM Transformer Hub.

“Brazil already has a well-established industrial expertise in the production of transformer components (…) With this investment, we are taking another step on this journey, expanding our scale and incorporating even more advanced technologies and processes to meet the growing demand in the Brazilian and global markets,” he said.

Investment is part of global expansion plan.

The investment of R$ 385 million is part of a global Hitachi Energy program that foresees more than US$ 9 billion in investments to expand its production capacity.

In Brazil, this expansion is occurring amidst increased demand for equipment intended for electrical infrastructure, including transformers and components used in power transmission and distribution systems.

The company states that increased local manufacturing should expand the availability of this equipment and reduce delivery times for customers.

“We are strengthening our local operation in Brazil, combining industrial capacity, technology, components and services to meet the growing needs of the electrical system,” said Glauco Freitas, head of South America and general manager of Hitachi in Brazil.

“More than expanding our production capacity, we are building an operation that allows us to be closer to our customers and support them throughout the entire lifecycle of their assets, in addition to expanding Brazil's strategic role in our global operations,” the executive emphasized.
