An energy storage system is transforming the energy situation on a private island in Araioses, Maranhão. Developed and installed by ION Energia, the hybrid solution was designed to provide clean, reliable electricity for the entire local infrastructure—which includes bungalows, a laundry room, an industrial kitchen, and employee dormitories.
With a project that already includes expansion into areas dedicated to the hotel industry, the development combines cutting-edge technology and intelligent architecture, ensuring energy efficiency even in an isolated environment.
In total, the solution consists of 9 Victron Energy Quattro 48/10000 inverters/chargers, which together deliver 90 kVA of power, with the capacity to expand to 120 kVA.
The installation also has 21 BYD B-BOX Pro 15.4 kWh batteries, totaling 323,4 kWh of storage – a number that could more than double in the future, as the infrastructure provides space for 19 more batteries.

Solar generation involved 300 550 Wp modules installed on special aluminum structures, totaling 165 kWp of power. The system also integrates two Fronius Eco 27.0 inverters for AC injection and five Victron SmartSolar charge controllers, with a structure designed for up to 12 units.
According to those responsible for the project, as a backup, a 125 kVA Stemac combustion generator guarantees supply in emergency situations.
“Victron Energy is a leading company in renewable energy and energy storage solutions, and its role is fundamental in providing reliability, safety and return on investment for our customers,” highlighted Edimar Prumucena, National Sales Manager for Victron in Brazil.
Complete and connected solution
In addition to installing the equipment, ION Energia was responsible for the entire scope of the project – from the load study and logistics of transporting components by barge, to the construction of the masonry technical rooms and junction boxes, which required laying cables 300 meters from the plant.
The entire system is monitored in real time by the Victron Remote Management (VRM) platform, which aims to ensure visibility, control and operational efficiency even from a distance.

Technical team involved
The project was developed by design engineer Joice Cleto, who also coordinated the installation management. In the field, engineer Gustavo Rocha worked on technical execution, while engineer Paulo Baraldi assumed overall technical responsibility for the project.
