A solar energy in Brazil has shown considerable growth, seeking a leading role and being used mostly in homes, as an alternative to help reduce electricity bill. Solar power is ranked 5th in the Brazilian electricity matrix, with 15,3 GW of installed capacity in operation, and estimates indicate even greater progress.
Although it represents only 1,7% of the energy matrix, due to the various economic and environmental benefits that this renewable energy source offers, the number of photovoltaic systems installed in Brazil has been expanding, especially in the South and Southeast regions of the country. Brazil has a large capacity for solar energy production and has some benefits favorable to the solar sector.
Considering that solar incidence levels in Brazil are higher than in countries that develop photovoltaic projects more frequently, such as Germany, France and Spain, the country has extensive energy potential from solar energy. In April of this year, Brazil reached 15,3 GW of operational photovoltaic solar energy.
A ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy) released data in May considering the installed capacities in the Brazilian states. According to the research, the state of Minas Gerais occupies the first place in the national ranking, with 1.730 MW. São Paulo registered 1.323 MW, taking second place on the podium and, finally, there is Rio Grande do Sul, with 1.170 MW.
