JA Solar supplies solar panels for Winter Olympics

200 MW PV plant provides renewable electricity for sporting event held in Beijing, China

JA Solar announced that it is contributing to the renewable energy matrix for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Located in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, the Guyuan plant, which has 200 MW of power, provides renewable electricity for the sporting event with all of JA's high-efficiency monocrystalline modules.

According to the company, the plant generates an average of 430 million kWh of energy per year, equivalent to reducing coal consumption by 129 thousand tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 300 thousand tons.

“Through a combination of animal husbandry and photovoltaic generation, the project, well-adapted to the temperate grassland climate in Guyuan, provides adequate feed for livestock while generating abundant electricity, effectively using land resources to obtain benefits for both sides: economy and environment”, highlighted the manufacturer in a note.

In Zhangjiakou, a co-host city of the games, the 3rd Solar Decathlon China (SDC) competition was recently held. Sponsored by JA and designed by the SolarArk 3.0 and XJTU+ teams, the solar eco homes were installed with JA Solar DeepBlue 3.0 high-efficiency modules.

Event in Beijing bets on renewables

The Winter Olympic Games must go down in history in the context of global carbon neutrality, as, for the first time in its 100-year history, all venues will be 100% covered by green energy. “JA Solar looks forward to working with old and new customers to spread the concept of low-carbon and green global development, promoting the construction of a zero-carbon society,” concluded the company.
