Jetion invests in the production of solar cells with heterojunction technology

New factory will be built at the end of the year and will have an annual production capacity of 5 GW

The photovoltaic sector is in constant technological development driven by market demands. Manufacturers in the segment have invested in the production of N-type and HJT (heterojunction technology) solar cells.

Building materials company CNBM (China National Building Materials) announced that it plans to invest RMB 3 billion (about US$46 million) in the construction of a factory for the production of HJT-type solar cells in the city of Jiangyin, Jiangsu province , China.

According to the panel manufacturer Jetion Solar, a subsidiary of CNBM, construction of the new factory is expected to begin in late 2021. The company also stated that the factory will focus on heterojunction technology, which is on the rise due to strong global demand for high-efficiency solar panels.

“In fact, HJT technology is nothing new, with Sanyo and later Panasonic having developed and produced the high-efficiency technology over decades. However, it remains a high-performance and high-cost product, which limits its penetration into the mass market,” says Ewain Guo, CTO of Jetion Solar.

According to Jetion, the factory will have an annual production capacity of 5 GW for solar cells with heterojunction technology. Production is expected to begin in 2023.
