Dust accumulation remains a major challenge to the efficiency and profitability of photovoltaic systems, especially in desert regions or areas with high levels of particulate matter in the air. Dust adhesion to modules, high cleaning costs, and the risk of hotspot formation are factors that can significantly compromise the performance of solar power plants. Although anti-dust solutions exist on the market, the industry is still seeking more effective and durable technologies capable of addressing this problem structurally.

Based on its Tiger Neo 3.0 technology platform, JinkoSolar presents its new generation of dust-resistant photovoltaic modules. The solution combines a three-dimensional dust-repellent design, integrating glass and module structure, with a proprietary self-cleaning, antistatic, super-hydrophilic, and anti-fouling nanostructured coating technology.

According to the company, the result is an advanced solution that significantly reduces dust accumulation and can increase energy generation by 4% to 6% compared to conventional modules, providing greater efficiency and lower operating costs.

JinkoSolar's dust-control technology is based on four key features that work together to prevent particle adhesion, facilitate natural cleaning, and ensure stable performance over time.

Antistatic and non-stick properties

The module's glass receives a nanometric coating with antistatic properties that significantly reduce static electricity on the surface. This prevents dust particles, fine sand, and other contaminants from adhering to the glass, making the modules especially suitable for installations in deserts or regions with sandstorms.

Super-hydrophilic self-cleaning technology

When it comes into contact with water, the coating creates a uniform film instead of forming droplets. This effect allows water to penetrate between the dirt and the glass surface, increasing the cleaning effect and automatically removing dust and stains. In this way, the modules remain clean for longer, reducing the need for manual intervention.

Photocatalytic decomposition of organic contaminants

Under sunlight, the coating activates a photocatalytic reaction capable of decomposing persistent organic contaminants, such as bird droppings or oil residue. This "smart self-cleaning" mechanism solves one of the main challenges of traditional cleaning technologies, which often fail to remove this type of dirt efficiently.

High durability and extended lifespan.

The coating is produced with nanocomposite materials and undergoes industrial tempering processes that guarantee high resistance to the most severe environmental conditions. Jinko claims that this robustness ensures stable performance over time and contributes to consistent gains in energy generation.

In addition to the coating technology, the new modules incorporate a frame design. The side frame is designed to remain aligned with the front surface of the glass, eliminating the dust retention effect common in traditional frames. In this way, accumulated dust can slide off more easily, especially during rain, further reducing the need for cleaning.

The combination of advanced glass coating and new structural design creates a three-dimensional dust protection solution, offering a more comprehensive and durable approach compared to conventional technologies.

This innovation not only improves light transmission and reduces the risk of hotspots, but also decreases the frequency and costs associated with manual or mechanical cleaning of the modules.

Based on the Tiger Neo 3.0 platform, the new modules maintain the high standards of reliability and performance already recognized in the line, while introducing a significant advancement in dust protection technology.

With the launch of these modules, JinkoSolar reinforces its commitment to technological innovation in the photovoltaic sector and to the development of solutions that meet the real operational and maintenance needs of solar power plants.

The company remains focused on delivering more efficient, reliable, and cost-effective products to customers in large-scale and distributed generation projects worldwide, contributing to improved quality and efficiency of global solar projects.

Felipe Leme, Technical Manager at JinkoSolar Brazil, highlighted that in Brazil, particularly in regions with unpaved roads and high concentrations of suspended particles, dirt is a critical factor impacting the performance of photovoltaic plants.

“The accumulation of dust on the surfaces of the modules reduces radiation transmittance and, consequently, energy production, in addition to increasing operating and maintenance costs due to the need for more frequent cleaning. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to uneven soiling conditions can lead to the formation of hot spots, accelerating the degradation of the modules over time,” stated Felipe Leme.

"In this scenario, anti-dust technologies, such as nanostructured coatings and optimized structural designs, play a fundamental role in mitigating losses due to dirt, increasing system reliability, and ensuring more stable long-term energy generation," he concluded.
