The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) concluded on August 4th the public consultation that received contributions from society on the proposed methodology for selecting areas destined for the generation of offshore wind energy in Brazil.
The proposal was prepared by EPE (Energy Research Company), in conjunction with SNTEP (National Secretariat for Energy Transition and Planning), in response to a demand from the ministry itself.
The methodology establishes technical, environmental, social and economic criteria to identify viable areas for the installation of offshore wind farms, based on international best practices and the guidelines of the PEM (Marine Spatial Planning), provided for in Law No. 15.097 / 2025.
Prior to the public consultation, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the State of Pernambuco (EPE) held technical workshops with the Offshore Wind Working Group, where they presented the preliminary proposal and gathered suggestions from the industry. According to the MME, this new phase aims to expand public participation and make the process more transparent and efficient.
