Those nominated by the Federal Government for the two vacancies in ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) have advanced in the Federal Senate. This Tuesday (19), Gentil Nogueira and Willamy Moreira Frota were questioned at the CI (Infrastructure Committee). Their names must now be passed to the Plenary.
Willamy Moreira Frota was nominated to fill the vacancy of the former director of ANEEL, Hélvio Neves Guerra, whose term ended in May 2024. An electrical engineer, he worked for more than 30 years in the electricity sector, including stints at Eletronorte and some companies in the Eletrobrás group.
Gentil Nogueira de Sá Júnior was approved to replace former director Ricardo Lavorato Tili, who left the agency in May of this year. A mechanical engineer and specialist in regulatory ANEEL, worked for 20 years in the areas of inspection, technical regulation, and marketing. In 2023, he assumed the position of National Secretary of Electric Energy at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, responsible for public policies in the electricity sector.
The names of Willamy and Gentil were part of an agreement (or ceasefire) between their respective godfathers: the President of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira.
The two have traded barbs in recent years, delaying the appointment to the vacancy vacated by Hélvio last year. The senator even called on President Lula to resign the minister more than once.
In addition to the names for the ANEEL, the CI also interviewed two other nominees for the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels). Artur Watt Neto and Pietro Adamo Sampaio Mendes also passed the collegiate's scrutiny, and will now be evaluated by the 81 senators.
