Nova Engevix and YOU.ON announced the creation of a joint venture to work on large-scale energy storage projects, offering comprehensive Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) solutions. The initiative combines Nova Engevix's engineering expertise with YOU.ON's, the company responsible for the largest battery system in Brazil.
The new company will provide services under a model full-scope, ranging from technical and financial studies to system operation and maintenance. The partnership aims to meet the growing demand for stability solutions in the electrical system, driven by the expansion of renewable sources.
“Batteries are an innovation already present in many parts of the world and will be fundamental to the Brazilian electrical system,” highlights José Antunes Sobrinho, president of Nova Participações.
With the first public auction for batteries scheduled for 2026, the sector estimates investments of between US$1 and US$2 billion. Meanwhile, specific regulations are advancing in ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and at the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), with public consultations scheduled for the coming months.
According to YOU.ON, the company has already demonstrated the technical viability of the technology by delivering, in 2022, the largest BESS for public use in Brazil, in Registro (SP), which benefits more than two million people. The system, operated by ISA Energia, aims to reinforce supply during peak periods and has been operating continuously and without failures for almost three years.
According to the companies, BESS systems are strategic for dealing with excess renewable generation and ensuring energy security. "These systems provide virtual inertia to the grid, strengthening the system's stability and resilience," says Giorgio Seigne, Chief Global Partnerships Officer at YOU.ON.
