Aiming to improve transparency in communication and data governance, the ONS (National Electric System Operator) launched a new section on its website dedicated to curtailment – the reduction in energy generation from renewable plants, such as solar and wind power.
The space gathers daily updated information on the reduction in generation from these sources, presented in an interactive business intelligence (BI) dashboard that allows the application of various filters and visualizations.
In addition to the consolidated data, the page features an explanatory video about curtailment and a FAQ with the main questions on the topic.
According to the ONS, between January 1 and October 21, 2025, the Calculated Unrealized Generation (GNRa) – an indicator that represents the volume of energy that was no longer generated in accordance with current rules – totaled 42.212 average MW, being:
- 14.274 MWmed for reliability;
- 21.325 MWmed per energy ratio;
- 6.660 MWmed due to external unavailability.
Of the total, wind power accounted for approximately 29.746 MWmed, while solar power plants recorded 12.513 MWmed of curtailment in the period.
