The Northeast continues to break solar generation records in 2021. Last Monday (28), the Brazilian region registered around 681 MW on average, according to information from the ONS (National Electric System Operator). This is a value that represents 6,4% of all regional energy demand. The number also indicated a growth of 2,1% compared to the last record, which was registered on May 24, with 667 MW on average.
The ONS also highlighted that the photovoltaic source also broke a new record in instantaneous generation this week, in the early afternoon of last Saturday (26), reaching the mark of 1.873 MW produced. The value represents an increase of 17,7% in demand in the region, surpassing the last record that had been computed on April 8.
wind energy
In addition to the rates obtained by solar, another renewable generation source that gained prominence this week in the Northeast was wind power, which was responsible for an instantaneous generation of 10.856 MW late on Saturday night. The amount was reached at 23:44 p.m., being enough to meet 96,1% of the region's subsystem demand at that time. The last record had been registered about a month ago, on May 26, when 10.612 MW were produced.
Future perspectives
Both solar and wind energy have been growing significantly in Brazil in recent years, according to data from the ONS itself. Currently, wind energy represents 10,6% of the Brazilian electricity matrix and is expected to reach 11,1% by the end of the year. Photovoltaic energy represents just over 2% of the electricity matrix and is expected to reach over 2,5% by the end of 2021.
