The levels storage of Brazilian reservoirs throughout July they should remain above 60% in all four subsystems. The highest predicted increases are concentrated in the North, which should reach 95,9% by the end of the month, and in the South, with an expected 89,3%.
In the case of the Northeast, the percentage is expected to reach 65,2% and in the Southeast/Central-West 64,6%. The projection is part of the PMO (Monthly Operation Program) of the ONS (National Electric System Operator), referring to the operational week of July 5 to 11.
The term stored energy refers to the amount of electrical energy that can be generated from water stored in reservoirs. hydroelectric plants. The ONS uses this indicator to plan the operation of the electrical system, aiming to guarantee a safe and efficient energy supply for all consumers.
“Thanks to an operational policy to preserve water resources, the South region has partially recovered storage levels in reservoirs. We continue to monitor the needs of the SIN (National Interconnected System) to anticipate solutions capable of maintaining the supply of loads,” said ONS Director General Marcio Rea.
Demand for energy
The Operator's document also pointed out that the prospective scenarios for load demand in July should have an expansion of 0,3% (76.009 MWmed) in the SIN, with the North, Northeast and South submarkets showing growth of 4,4% (8.112 MWmed), 3,7% (12.837 MWmed) and 1,5% (13.609 MWmed).
For the Southeast/Central-West, estimates are for a reduction of 1,9% (41.451 MWmed). The percentages compare the projections for the month with the results seen in the same period in 2024. The CMO (Marginal Operating Cost) for the next operating week has the same value in all subsystems: R$228,49/MWh.
