A ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association) and InvestMinas (Minas Gerais Investment and Foreign Trade Promotion Agency) signed a cooperation agreement to further promote solar energy generation in Minas Gerais territory.
According to the entity, the initiative aims to attract new investments to the region, generate more jobs and income for the population and stimulate the development of new business opportunities for entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, it aims to expand access to photovoltaic solar energy to residential consumers, productive sectors, agribusiness and the public sector in the state of Minas Gerais.
Among the priorities of the agreement, the following stand out: identifying entrepreneurs in the solar sector interested in investing in the state, sharing information about the photovoltaic market in Minas Gerais, evaluating business trends and improving the regulatory and legal environment, in addition to cooperating in events and joint actions.
“Minas Gerais has just surpassed the historic mark of 2 GW of installed power from the solar source in operation. Since 2012, self-generation and large solar plants have provided Minas Gerais with the attraction of more than R$9,9 billion in investments, the generation of more than 60 thousand jobs and the collection of more than R$2,5 billion for public coffers”, said Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR.
“When adding the large centralized plants and the small and medium-sized self-generation systems on roofs, facades and land, the state of Minas Gerais already has 2.012,4 MW operational”, he added.
For Ronaldo Koloszuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, the advancement of solar energy in the country is fundamental for the social, economic and environmental development of Minas Gerais and Brazil.
“Photovoltaic technology helps to diversify the supply of electrical energy, reducing pressure on water resources and the risk of red flags occurring on the population’s electricity bill”, he emphasized.
According to Ronaldo Alexandre Barquette, director of investment attraction at InvestMinas, the partnership further reinforces the actions that have been taken by both parties aimed at increasing solar generation in the state and opening up this sector to suppliers of parts, pieces, equipment and services.
“The state of Minas Gerais is a reference in the development of solar energy in Brazil. Photovoltaic technology represents enormous potential for generating jobs and income, attracting private investment and collaborating in the fight against climate change,” concludes Bruno Catta Preta, state coordinator of the ABSOLAR in Minas Gerais.
