The Civil Police of Santa Catarina carried out an operation this week to fulfill a search and seizure warrant against a criminal group involved in a fraud scheme in the solar energy sector in Joinville (SC).

In early February, the suspects used falsified registration data and opened a fraudulent bank loan to acquire more than R$300 in photovoltaic equipment from a company in the sector.

After the goods were released, they were transported to the municipalities of Rio das Antas and São Cristóvão do Sul, both in Santa Catarina. On February 24 and 25, after receiving reports, the police located and recovered the illegally acquired cargo.

According to police chief Rodrigo Gusso, 275 solar panels and five photovoltaic inverters were recovered. In addition to recovering the equipment, the police arrested the leader of the gang, who was on the run, on Friday morning (28).

“He knew he was being sought and tried to mislead the police. He invented a fake kidnapping and even killed a drifter, placing the body inside his truck to make it look like he had been killed by people who were threatening him for not handing over the equipment,” the police chief revealed to Canal Solar.

Investigations are ongoing to identify others involved in the fraud. So far, at least three suspects are being sought, but according to Gusso, the number of members of the criminal organization could be even higher.
