O price of polysilicon one of the fundamental inputs in the manufacture of photovoltaic modules – should be stabilize along the first quarter, preventing the price of photovoltaic modules from rising above the values recorded throughout practically the entire year 2022.
It is what projects a new study released, this Friday (17), by greener – one of the most influential research and consultancy companies in the solar energy sector in the Brazilian market.
According to the survey, the price of polysilicon presented an drastic drop between the months of November and December 2022, after an increase of more than 20% in the first half of the year.
A reduction made it possible on for the input to start in January 2023 with price of U.S. $ 17 / kg, almost half of the US$32/kg in the same period in 2022.
According to Greener, one of the reasons for is in the price of the input occurred because the factories of polisilicon increased their capacity productive at the end of last year, which expanded supply and influenced the price drop.
The cost of input it even went up in February, reaching a value of US$25/kg, demonstrating volatility in a short-term scenario. despite that, Greener informs that the oscillations should not affect the price trend for the remainder of the year.
According to Márcio Takata, CEO of Greener, it is expected that the supply and demand for polysilicon materials will be relatively balanced in 2023 and that the price of the input will remain below last year's value, meaning that, mainly, the modules photovoltaics become cheaper than in 2022.
“The trend is for a drop in the price of polysilicon compared to 2022, which should contribute to a significant reduction in the prices of photovoltaic modules, which currently account for 35% to 50% of the final price of a solar energy system”, said the executive, mentioning that the value of the input should not, at any time of the year, exceed the barrier of US$30/kg.
