Nine of ten solar plants with best performances operational in Brazil in the GC segment (centralized generation) were developed by three companies: Comerc Energia, EDP Renováveis and Lightsource bp, according to the “Wind and Solar Operational Ranking” da e-Power Bay.

O report, published based on information from CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber), takes into account the capacity factor of the enterprises. In other words, how much a plant generates in relation to the maximum it could generate.

Check out the ranking in the image below:

A Commerce Energy is the company that has the largest number of units in the Top-10: they are five ventures, all of them belonging to the Castillo Project, located in the city of the same name, in the interior of São Paulo.

The solar complex – which received investments of around R$925 million – was inaugurated in the first half of 2023 in an area measuring more than 6,9 million m², the equivalent of around 836 football fields.

The plant has almost 500 photovoltaic modules from Longi, as well as inverters from Huawei and trackers from Array. The project is the result of a partnership so that Renault could have 100% of its operations powered by clean energy.

A EDP Renewables, in turn, has two solar projects among the best rated in the e-Power Bay ranking. The two plants in operation belong to the Pereira Barreto Complex, located in the municipality of the same name, also in the interior of the state of São Paulo.

The project has a total area of 455 hectares, the equivalent of 421 football fields, with more than 600 thousand photovoltaic modules. There, EDP Renováveis sells green energy to EDP Brasil.

As with the Castilho Solar Complex, the Pereira Barreto plant has solar panels from manufacturer Longi, with inverters from Huawei and Trackers from Array.

who too count with two photovoltaic plants in Brazil among the 10 best performances in the ranking of e-Power Ba is Lightsource bp.

The photovoltaic units belonging to the Project Miracles began their operation in December 2023, in Abaiara, in the interior of Ceará.

Most of the energy generated on site is sold on the Free Energy Market, through PPAs (long-term energy purchase and sale contracts) signed with companies with high financial solidity.

The project began construction in 2021, with investments of around R$800 million. Of this amount, around R$423 million was financed by the FDNE (Northeast Development Fund) and the remainder was financed directly by Lightsource bp

“Seeing the Milagres project as one of the best performing projects in the Northeast only reinforces Brazil in its leadership position in the renewables market and in the global energy transition,” said Ricardo Barros, the company's country manager in Brazil.

In addition to these projects, closing the Top-10 of the e-Power Bay ranking is one of the power plants in the Belmonte Solar Complex, do Cobra Group, located in São José do Belmonte, in the Sertão of Pernambuco.

Currently, Brazil has more than 13,5 GW of operational capacity in photovoltaic plants in large solar plants, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

Among the states with the highest installed capacity in the segment, the following stand out: Minas Gerais, with 4,46 GW; Bahia, with 2,05 GW, and Piauí, with 1,87 GW. Across the country, there are already more than 18,2 enterprises in operation.

Projections presented by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy) point out that centralized solar generation is expected to generate more than R$90 billion in investments and over 570 thousand jobs in Brazil by the end of 2026.
