Brazil is expected to close the month of January with all of its reservoirs without (National Interconnected System) with stored energy levels above 60% of capacity, according to a report released by ONS (National Electric System Operator) on Friday (24).
The PMO (Monthly Operation Program) bulletin for the last operational week of the month indicates that the North region may reach 75,2%, followed by the Northeast, with 70,4%. The Southeast/Central-West and the South, on the other hand, should end January with 62,2% and 61,5%, respectively.
“The current scenario is favorable. All regions have volumes above 60% of stored energy, reflecting the good inflows during the wet season (…) The recovery of reservoir levels will allow us to have a smoother operation during the dry season,” assured Marcio Rea, general director of ONS.
In relation to demand, the Operator foresees new load expansions in the country, especially after the instantaneous load record in the SIN reached last week, when demand reached the historic mark of 102.924 MW.
In the SIN, the load is expected to accelerate by 4,3%, reaching 83.077 MWMed. Among the submarkets, the highest growth is in the South, with 11,2% (15.384 MWMed), followed by the North with 4,8% (7.591 MWMed).
The Northeast and Southeast/Central-West regions are expected to register expansion of 0,8% (13.383 MWMed) and 3,2% (46.719 MWMed), respectively. These percentages indicate an advance in the projections for January 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
The forecast for ENA (Influent Natural Energy) at the end of the month is above 100% of the MLT (Long-Term Average) in two subsystems: the North, with 105% of the MLT; and the Northeast, with 103% of the MLT. The Southeast/Central-West should reach 96% of the MLT and in the South region it could reach 70% of the MLT on January 31st.
