According to a study from the IEA (International Energy Agency), renewables will be the only source to grow this year, in contrast to all fossil fuels and nuclear. Now, another factor is also attracting attention and stands out amid the crisis: the low incidence of contamination cases among people who work in the renewable energy market.
Associations that bring together the main companies in the photovoltaic and wind sectors attest that few cases of coronavirus are being reported among workers.
In solar energy, among hundreds of companies researched by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), few cases have been reported. In the wind segment, although there is no official accounting, there have been no reports of cases to date, says ABEEólica (Brazilian Association of Wind Energy).
“The solar energy sector sells health. During this pandemic, we noticed a great concern throughout the chain regarding the issue of its image, so many people, even without the obligation to isolate themselves, ended up isolating themselves,” said Ronaldo Koloszuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR.
According to ABSOLAR, the solar and wind sectors benefit from controlling the coronavirus, in part, due to the smaller number of people in operations, in addition to the geographical location of the projects, generally in the interior of the country, which makes workers less exposed. “Contamination is practically zero”, concludes Koloszuk.
