Report points to growth in imports of modules and number of connected systems in Brazil

The study highlights the growth in the volume of imported modules and inverters

Market research company Greener has released a new report reporting the status of the photovoltaic solar energy sector in the country. The report provides updated import data and market prices for the second half of 2019.

The study highlights the growth in the volume of imported modules and inverters, which surpassed the 1,2 GW mark in the first half of the year alone.

Imports of inverters grew 154% compared to the first half of 2018, heading towards a new record.

The study also shows the evolution of the price of modules and systems for end customers. New technologies and increased production capacity in factories have brought a significant drop in the price per Watt since the beginning of 2018. The graph below illustrates the price per Watt in the FOB modality in dollars, that is, the price of the product in its country of origin , without taking into account import taxes, insurance and shipping.

The drop in the price of modules also had an influence on the price for the end consumer. The graph below compiles the evolution of prices by power range over the years.

There is also a reduction in the cost of system integration. This reduction can be explained by the gain in efficiency and scale in the preparation and execution of projects. The increase in competitiveness in the photovoltaic sector also means that the cost tends to decrease over the years, as illustrated in the graph below.

Finally, the study compiled data from grid-connected systems provided by ANEEL, showing the significant growth rate between the first half of 2019 compared to the entire year of 2018.

With this expansion of imports and new connections of photovoltaic systems, the country should finally reach the mark of 1 GW in installed power in the Distributed Generation modality.
