O ONS (National Electric System Operator) released a new edition of the PMO (Monthly Operation Program) for the operational week of March 8-14, indicating that the levels of energy stored in hydroelectric reservoirs should remain above 60% in three of the country's four subsystems until the end of the month.
The North region is expected to record the largest volume of available energy, with 96,1% of reservoir capacity, followed by the Northeast (78,1%) and the Southeast/Central-West (69,3%). The only exception is the South region, which is expected to close March with 36,9%, the lowest percentage among the subsystems.
According to the Operator, the rates remain stable compared to the same period last year. “The ONS has been adopting an operational policy that seeks to optimize the country's energy resources and that allows, at the same time, the recovery and maintenance of the levels of the main reservoirs. This strategy is reinforced at the end of the wet season (which ends in mid-April)”, says Marcio Rea, general director of the ONS.

The forecast for ENA (Natural Affluent Energy) – volume of water that reaches the reservoirs – has undergone adjustments in some regions:
- Southeast/Central-West: reduction to 60% of the MLT (Long Term Average) (previously it was 65%);
- Northeast: adjustment to 25% of MLT (previous forecast was 28%);
- North: increase to 102% of MLT (previously 95%);
- South: maintained at 55% of MLT.
Energy demand expected to grow across the country
The document released by the ONS also indicates that the electricity load in the SIN (National Interconnected System) should grow 3,5% in March, totaling 86.450 MWmed.
The largest expansion expected is in the Southern region subsystem, with a 7,6% increase, followed by the other regions:
- North: +4% (7.692 MWmed);
- Southeast/Central-West: +3,2% (49.321 MWmed);
- Northeast: +0,2% (13.638 MWmed).
The percentages compare the projections for March 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
