Have you ever thought about installing solar energy in your home? According to the latest market study carried out by Greener, a consultancy and research company, the price of a smaller photovoltaic system is cheaper in Brazil.
The survey showed that, since June 2017, equipment for residential solar systems has become around 27% more profitable.
The drop was the result of the containment in installation service prices, which fell 18% in Brazil, which was probably due to a reduction in profit margins for companies in the segment to compensate for the rise in the dollar.
According to Greener, the significant reduction in photovoltaic module prices on the international market should help mitigate the effects of exchange rates in the third and fourth quarter of 2020.
For Ronaldo Koloszuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), solar energy is competitive and few investments are as profitable as a photovoltaic system. “The electricity tariff in Brazil is one of the most expensive in the world, which has consistently led many consumers to use the technology,” he highlighted.
One of the consumers who is using solar energy at home is entrepreneur Marco Aurélio Quirino, who installed 26 photovoltaic panels in his home, located in the city of Maringá (PR), with a generation of 14.835 kWh per year.
According to Diogo Martins, executive director of Platão Energia, the company responsible for executing the project, Marco Aurélio will have annual savings of more than R$10, reaching payback in 4 years.
Payback
Another fact revealed by the study was the reduction in the return on investment period for the consumer. According to Greener, the payback of a residential system fell 4,6% compared to the last survey.
In the states of Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo, leaders in installed power, the reduction was 2,9%, 3,6% and 6,1%, respectively. The consultancy states that the reason is the constant inflation in the price of energy in Brazil, which increases the savings generated by the system on consumers' bills and reduces the period for amortizing their investment.

About the research
Greener interviewed more than 2 thousand companies between May 21 and June 30, in addition to 410 end users and 33 developers of large DG plants. The consultancy estimates that there are 14.200 integrating companies in the photovoltaic sector. To see the complete survey, click here.
