Shell, a multinational oil company, is developing a project to implement a photovoltaic complex in the city of São João do Rio do Peixe (PB). The project will have seven solar energy generating parks with an estimated installed capacity of 323 MW. The company has not yet provided a scheduled date for the implementation of the project, but has already filed a concession request with the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
Investments in solar energy
O photovoltaic project in the state of Paraíba is not Shell's first investment in the photovoltaic segment in Brazil. The company requested the ANEEL, in April last year, the concession for the construction of three photovoltaic plants in Minas Gerais.with a total installed capacity of 150 MW. In total, Shell has 31 requests for the installation of photovoltaic solar plants in Brazil, 24 in the state of Minas Gerais alone. In total, the company has 1,423 GW of granted power.
Bet on renewables
Starting in 2020, Shell will invest $3 billion annually in renewable energy projects worldwide. The investment is part of the company's strategy to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In October last year, the company announced a new structure for the electricity and natural gas business in Brazil. The objective is to create an integrated electricity model in the country, in addition to marketing and optimizing sales to the company's end consumers.
