Brazil reached a historic milestone in expansion of its installed power generation capacity, reaching 8,4 GW by November 30, 2023. This notable advance surpasses the performance of 2022, when 8,2 GW were installed, until then the second biggest brand since 1997, as pointed out by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
The difference continues to be the protagonism of renewable sources, which accounted for around 90,4% of the added capacity, totaling 7,6 GW. Among them, the centralized solar and wind plants stand out, highlighting the promising potential of clean energy in Brazilian territory.
The expansion of the electrical matrix was observed in 19 states, covering all five regions of the country. In a decreasing analysis, the states that stood out the most until November 30 were Rio Grande do Norte, with 2.035,2 MW, followed by Minas Gerais, with 2.025,7 MW, and Bahia, which contributed 1.992,5 MW.
November stood out as a month of notable achievements, with Minas Gerais leading growth by adding 210,0 MW to installed capacity. This value represents more than a third of the total growth of 613,0 MW achieved in the period. Other states that stood out this month were Pernambuco, with 150,0 MW, and Paraíba, contributing 104,4 MW.
The Brazilian electrical matrix reached an inspected power of 196,7 GW, with 83,9% of this amount coming from renewable sources, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric plants and biomass. This scenario reinforces the Brazil's commitment to the transition for more sustainable energy matrix and aligned with the global demands for clean energy.
