Every 6 seconds, a Brazilian searches for solar energy on Google.

Searches involving solar energy totaled more than 4,9 million on Google in the last 12 months, revealing the strong interest of Brazilians in photovoltaic technology. In practice, this volume means that the term registered a new search every six seconds. 

The data comes from a survey conducted by Descarbonize Soluções, an energytech company specializing in solar energy and energy transition, which analyzed the main types of properties associated with Google searches for photovoltaic systems.

The highest demand was for solar energy for homes, which leads the ranking. According to 2025 data from... ANEEL According to the National Electric Energy Agency, Brazil has more than 3 million residential solar energy systems.

Interest also extends to other types of housing. Searches for photovoltaic systems for apartments and condominiums appear in the survey, showing that the demand for the technology reaches consumers living in different housing environments.

Companies come in second place.

The demand for solar energy, however, is not limited to the residential segment. The corporate sector is among the main audiences interested in the technology: "solar energy for companies" occupies the second position in the overall search ranking.

In addition to cost reduction, solar energy has been adopted by the business sector as an alternative to increase the predictability of electricity expenses, advance environmental goals, and reduce exposure to energy tariff fluctuations.

This movement also occurs in parallel with the advancement of self-generation in the sector. According to a survey by TTS Energia, based on official data from... ANEELMore than 217 companies started generating their own electricity between January and October of the period analyzed.

Analyzing searches for solar energy for businesses in different regions of Brazil, the survey shows that interest is distributed throughout the country.

In the Northern region, Rondônia and Tocantins are among the states with the highest volume of searches on the subject. Both also appear among the top three in distributed solar generation in the region, according to 2026 data from [source missing]. ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).

The Northeast also features strongly in the ranking, represented by Piauí, Sergipe, Maranhão, and Rio Grande do Norte. Despite high demand, these states do not hold leading national positions in installed capacity for distributed solar generation, which may indicate a growing interest in this energy source in these markets.

In the Midwest, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul stand out in the searches. Mato Grosso also leads in distributed solar generation in the region.

The state of Espírito Santo represents the Southeast region among the states highlighted by the survey, while Paraná appears in the South. The state of Paraná occupies the third national position in installed capacity for distributed solar generation.

Solar energy is also gaining ground in the countryside.

Besides businesses, rural properties appear among the five types of real estate most associated with searches for solar energy, showing that interest in the technology is also growing in the countryside.

The expansion is keeping pace with the effective growth of self-generation in rural areas. Between 2020 and the end of 2024, the number of rural consumer units served by solar energy increased from 54 to 471, while the installed capacity of this energy source in agribusiness grew more than sevenfold during that period.

Currently, the rural sector accounts for approximately 14% of the installed capacity of distributed solar power generation in the country.
