Brazil will have 13% of its energy matrix provided by solar energy by 2030. This was highlighted by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, this Wednesday (6), during the opening of Proenergia 2021 – a three-day event organized in Fortaleza (CE), with important players in the sector.
In his speech, lasting just over 30 minutes, the minister said that the country will invest resources in renewable sources in the coming years and that the dependence on hydroelectric plants in the matrix will drop from 61% to 49% by the end of the decade.
“It is this complementarity that, over time, will provide the energy security that the country so desperately needs for its socioeconomic development and for us to have energy at much more affordable costs,” he stated.
The head of the Ministry was also optimistic about the electrical capacity installed in the country. “Distributed generation (DG) has grown by more than 2.000% in the last three years alone, which shows that Brazil has a favorable business environment for the segment’s growth,” he said.
GD Legal Framework
During the event, the minister also spoke about other topics involving the promotion of renewable energy, including solar, in relation to PL 5829, which aims to create the GD Legal Framework in the country.
According to Albuquerque, it is not up to ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) get involved in public policies related to the sector, but rather to federal, state and municipal governments. “This is what we are doing and I was proud to have received all the agents, associations and parliamentarians who led this process in the Chamber of Deputies”, he said, referring to PL 5829.
Energy water crisis
Albuquerque also addressed the issue of water scarcity that the country is experiencing and said that the situation is much more manageable than in 2001, when there was a power shortage and energy rationing.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) we had the ordinary meeting of the Electricity Sector Monitoring Committee and we realized that we are going through this period of water scarcity with full governance and we will reach the end of the year in the same way, with full governance too”, he highlighted.
green hydrogen
In his speech, the minister also cited the National Hydrogen Program, which provides R$30 billion in contracts to promote the source in the country. According to him, the idea is to make Brazil a major exporter of green hydrogen in the world. “This is in our national energy plan with targets for 2050, which was rescued after 14 years and will now be updated every five years,” he said.
