The search for economical and sustainable energy solutions through renewable sources has created business opportunities and increasingly attracted the eyes of multinationals to Brazil, which has been investing a significant portion of its assets in the construction of solar parks or large power plants .
Last Friday (17), the BRF – a Brazilian multinational food company, the result of the merger between Sadia and Perdigão – announced the construction of a solar park in the cities of Mauriti and Milagres, in Ceará, with an installed capacity of 320 MW. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2024 and the project will be developed through a partnership with the company Pontoon. The contract signed between the two companies has a term of 15 years and the estimated investment is R$1,1 billion.
In total, the project will have 1.170 hectares and 600 solar panels installed. “We will reach 88% of electrical energy coming from clean and renewable sources in Brazil. The initiatives are aligned with our sustainability and planning strategy”, informed the multinational, in a statement published on social media.
In July this year, it was Shell which took an important step towards the construction of its first solar park in Brazil. The oil company signed a cooperation agreement with the steel producer Gerdau for the development of a 190 MW photovoltaic plant. Named Aquarii, the plant will be built in the municipality of Brasilândia de Minas (MG) and will supply part of the energy to Gerdau's manufacturing units. The remainder will be made available on the free market, starting in 2024, according to Shell.
Another example of a multinational that decided to invest in the construction of solar plants in Brazil was the Chinese company Huawei, which will supply a large part of the population of São Félix do Jalapão (TO) free of charge until the end of 2022. The company believes that, in three or four years, the entire municipality will be benefiting from the energy. The construction of the plant will occupy around four hectares of the city and should generate dozens of jobs in the region.
