Datlaz, a data intelligence company, released this Monday (3) a survey of the solar and wind power plants that recorded the highest capacity factors in December 2024.

This is a concept that, in general terms, represents how much energy a project can generate in relation to its possible maximum.

In solar generation, the highlight was Canadian Solar's Salgueira III Solar Plant, which reached a capacity factor of 35,22% in the month.

The park, located in Pernambuco, uses photovoltaic modules from Canadian itself, trackers from Array Tech and inverters from Sungrow.

In addition, Datlaz highlighted the positive performance of Nextracker and Array Tech equipment, present in 52% and 40% of the 25 best-ranked plants, respectively.

“For panels, Canadian leads the ranking with a total presence of 68% in plants. For inverters, we have Sungrow, Huawei, Ingeteam, WEG and TBEA on the list of highlights”, informed the company.

As for wind power, the highlight was the investment group Serena Energia (Omega), with a 76% share among the 25 largest plants, in addition to occupying the first 15 positions in the ranking.

In its parks, a capacity factor close to 90% was noted, mainly in the Porto do Delta complex, in Piauí.

“In addition to this performance, we highlight the presence of GE Energy machines, which join the investment group as the highlight of the month,” reported Datlaz.

In addition to these, the ranking also includes wind turbines from Vestas and Siemens-Gamesa. “We cannot fail to mention the investment groups Elera, Serena, Echoenergia Participações SA and EDP Renováveis,” the data company highlighted.

Capacity Factor

The FC (capacity factor) of a solar or wind power plant is an indicator that measures the efficiency of energy generation in relation to its maximum potential.

The indicator is expressed as a percentage (%) and compares the actual energy generated in a specific period (usually a month or year) with the energy that the plant could generate if it operated at its maximum capacity 100% of the time, and is calculated as follows:
