Nearly 2 million consumer units were left without electricity after the strong gale that hit the state of Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday afternoon (29).
The storm disrupted power supplies, uprooted trees, affected public transportation, and left two people dead.
Data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) shows that, at the time of greatest impact, approximately 1,9 million properties were left without power.
The Light concession area accounted for the majority of outages, with approximately 1,57 million consumer units affected, while Enel Rio recorded around 536 customers without power.
Winds reached 105 km/h and caused disruptions in the rail transport system. Lines 1, 2 and 4 of MetrôRio and train circulation were temporarily interrupted due to lack of power, but operations were normalized on Wednesday (29).
According to the ONS (National Electric System Operator), the outages began at 15:57 PM, following incidents in the transmission and distribution networks caused by strong winds, impacting the SIN (National Interconnected System).
At 16:38 PM, the Grajaú Substation was shut down, resulting in a reduction of approximately 1,5 GW of load on the system.
In a statement, the Operator reported that it worked together with industry agents to restore the supply and that, by 17:35 pm, all the interrupted load had already been restored.
Despite the normalization of the load on the electrical system, teams from Light and Enel Rio continued working this Thursday (30) to restore the supply to consumers who were still without power.
