The Três Unidos indigenous community, located in the APA (Environmental Protection Area) of Rio Negro, 60 km from Manaus, received the installation of a photovoltaic system to assist in telemedicine services, reducing the impacts of Covid-19 and improving service health in the region.
According to FAS (Fundação Amazonas Sustentável), there is a health post at the site that operated only with a fuel-powered energy generator, which created several problems and insecure service. Furthermore, the community does not have access to electricity and does not benefit from the LPT (Light for All) program.
According to Jousanete Dias, one of those responsible for the project, with the new solar energy system, the work of health professionals will be made easier and residents will no longer need to travel to the city to guarantee medical care. In total, more than 120 families will benefit
Jousanete also highlighted that clean energy will generate cost reduction and income promotion for the community, in addition to serving small businesses and local tourism. According to FAS, the installation of the photovoltaic system is the result of a partnership with the Irish Embassy in Brazil.
