Tennis Academy installs solar plant and qualifies for international tournaments

Investment of R$ 490 thousand was financed at 50% and has an expected payback period of four years

Techset Tennis Academy, a tennis academy located in Vogue Square, in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro (RJ), invested R$490 thousand in an energy efficiency project that included the installation of a solar plant with an installed capacity of 78,48 kWp and the replacement of the lighting on the eight courts with LED lamps.

With the initiative, Techset managed to obtain a reduction in its electricity bill and qualification to receive the games from ITF (International Tennis Federation).

Partner of the Brazilian Tennis Confederation, Techset hosted the German team during the Davis Cup, where they trained Alexander Zverev, TOP 3 in the world. In addition to tennis, the academy also has a dance school, gym, martial arts center and physiotherapy. And an electricity bill that was around R$30 per month.

To reduce this bill, the Tesch Energia, accredited by Renew, carried out an energy feasibility study in order to reduce the gym's energy bill to zero. The most economical – and sustainable – solution was to install a photovoltaic plant, which also made it possible to replace the lighting with LED lamps, making the gym suitable for hosting international games.

“This type of project has a high energy consumption. We carried out a complete energy analysis to be able to project zero consumption on the electricity bill. The savings that solar energy will bring made it possible to install LED lighting, bringing an additional benefit to the project”, explained Lucas Schüler, commercial director of Tesch Energia.

Techset's solar plant has 144 545 Wp monocrystalline panels from JA Solar and two 30 kW Renovigi inverters. Gustavo Müller Martins, CEO of Renovigi, highlights the growth of solar energy among individuals and small and medium-sized businesses, especially in the sports sector.

“We have observed an increasing adherence among sports entrepreneurs in the search for renewable energy sources, both for saving on electricity bills and for environmental reasons. Concern for the environment is an important value for those who work in sports, long before ESG”, commented.

Marco Aurélio Alencar, founder of the academy, is satisfied with the investment, which included financing of 50%. “This project is fundamental for the modernization of the academy, not only for the savings it will provide, but also for sustainability. As a high-performance gym, we need to be aligned with 21st century environmental values,” he commented.

Techset has eight courts – six clay courts and two synthetic courts – and specializes in training high-performance athletes, from the grassroots level, with a school, to the training of professional athletes.
