Keystone Mineração, in partnership with Huawei Digital Power and Aggreko, will implement a microgrid in the municipality of Nova Bandeirante (MT) to meet the energy demands of the Juruena Gold Project.

The MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) envisions a hybrid plant combining thermal power, solar photovoltaic energy, and batteries, with an initial capacity of 6 MW and the potential for expansion to 20 MW. The facility is expected to enter operation in 2025.

Huawei will be the reference supplier of equipment and systems, including solar inverters and the BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) storage technology from the Luna portfolio, while Aggreko will be responsible for developing the integrated solution.

"We are excited about the possibilities of this collaboration and committed to moving forward with the next steps to make this project viable. It is a historic milestone to be able to join forces with renowned companies like Aggreko and Huawei, demonstrating their strong commitment to us in the Amazon," said Tim Chen, CEO of Keystone Mining.

For Bárbara Pizzolatto, Off-Grid Business Director at Huawei Digital Power, the project is transformative. "This is a pioneering and transformative project that embodies our mission to promote renewable and sustainable energy in challenging markets and remote regions. The proposed solution is fully autonomous and brings significant efficiency and environmental benefits. Our microgrid system can generate savings of up to 15% on the total plant cost and reduce carbon emissions by more than 23%," she explained.

The executive also highlighted Huawei's grid-forming battery technology. "This unique feature ensures safety, reliability, and stability in power generation, seamlessly integrating with the microgrid. We are very proud to contribute to the social and economic development of Juruena, providing clean energy to the Amazon region," she emphasized.

In the evaluation of Cristiano Saito, Utilities Sales Director at Aggreko in Brazil, the project marks a breakthrough for national mining. “Combining thermal, solar and battery storage, the Juruena Project proves that it is possible to bring energy innovation to regions with challenging access, reducing emissions, ensuring reliability and boosting the development of local communities,” said Cristiano Saito, Utilities Sales Director at Aggreko in Brazil.

According to the companies, the Juruena Project, focused on gold mining, adopts an industrial model that seeks to combine economic productivity and social and environmental responsibility. Located in an area of approximately 33 hectares, the mine is located in a region of great natural wealth, marked by the Amazon rainforest and the Juruena River. It currently employs approximately 80 direct and 300 indirect professionals.
