TOP 5 – Ranking of the largest solar inverter manufacturers

Israeli Solar Edge, known for its optimizer technology, holds 4% of the global inverter market

The photovoltaic market is constantly evolving. While installed capacity worldwide continues to grow, manufacturers are fighting for every corner of the market. market share world — and from time to time some give up on competing with the Chinese, as is the case with ABB, which this month announced its exit from the solar inverter market. See the article about ABB's departure here.

The solar market ended 2018 with a global installed capacity of more than 512 gigawatts (GW), of which 180 GW (35%) was from centralized generation plants. Global market growth in relation to 2017 was almost 30%. At the end of 2018, solar sources already accounted for 3% of global electricity generation.

TOP 5 – The largest inverter manufacturers

In the list of the 5 largest global inverter manufacturers, the Chinese Sineng, Huawei and Sunrow. The German SMA, one of the world's forerunners of photovoltaic inverter technology and once holding 40% of the market, occupies 4a position, with 8% of the market share worldwide. At 5a In this position is the Spanish Power Electronics, still little known outside the European market.

It is no coincidence that the three Chinese manufacturers have gained global leadership. The solar energy market in China has shown tremendous growth. In 2018, China alone installed around 45 GW of solar systems, approximately 10% of the global total accumulated in the same year.

In the rest of the world, including mainly Europe and the Americas, manufacturers such as SMA they still have the largest share of the market and lead the competition in quality and technology.

The Israeli Solar Edge, known for its optimizer technology, holds 4% of the global inverter market, occupying 1st position in the ranking of single-phase inverters for distributed generation, with a market share of more than 20% in this segment, according to data from the GTMResearch agency, based in the Kingdom United.

Note: the data in the figure above refers to worldwide inverter sales in 2018 only.
