In an interview with Canal Solar, Adalberto Maluf, national secretary of the Urban Environment and Environmental Quality, clarified that the Federal Government was willing to veto solar energy in the resumption of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, but backtracked on its decision.
“In relation to Minha Casa, Minha Vida, the government actually had this first willingness to veto both articles 37 and article 38 of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida MP. However, after the intervention of the Ministry of the Environment together with the other ministries, the Ministry of the Environment obtained support so that article 38 – the 50% reduction in the cost of availability – was not vetoed, which in the eyes of the MMA, would be more important to ensure that the neediest populations can also generate energy for themselves. Therefore, there was a commitment from the government not to veto article 38”, reported Maluf.
“As for article 37, on the sale of surplus energy, as important as we consider the measure and see a lot of merit in its inclusion, we consider that it needed a much more mature debate with all entities in the Brazilian electricity sector, and it wouldn’t be with an amendment that we would make such an important change in the sector”, he concluded.
Hours ago, as reported by Canal Solar, Jader Filho, Minister of Cities, stated that solar energy had been one of the vetoes. “There were several vetoes. What I can say specifically is that the issue of solar energy was one of the vetoes that took place, another was structuring insurance and the issue of notary offices was also vetoed. Then there will be some other vetoes, but they won't be much more than that. The main ones are these three”, the minister told G1.
Given the statements and statements made regarding the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, the sector awaits confirmation of what will happen through publication in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union), scheduled to be published by tomorrow (14).
