O sizing a photovoltaic system is nothing more than a study of the specificities the location where the technology will be implemented, as well as the identification and choice of which equipment should be used in energy production. That is, it consists of planning the installation of a solar plant.
To help with this process, researchers from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the São Carlos School of Engineering USP (University of Sao Paulo) created an application of sizing Photovoltaic systems available on Google Play Store (Android) and on Microsoft Store (Windows).
According to teachers, application can be used by anyone with basic knowledge of electricity. To do this, the user simply needs to indicate the name of the city where the installation will be located, the average monthly energy for the last 12 months and the cost of energy obtained from an energy bill.
“Based on this information, the app determines the photovoltaic power, the number of modules and photovoltaic inverter suggestions. The monthly energy generated month by month, the annual tons of CO2 avoided by using the system and the equivalent number of trees are also provided”, explains professor Elmer Pablo Tito Cari, one of the creators of the tool alongside Nílson Takayuki, electrical engineer. graduated from USP in São Carlos.
