A-5: distributors must declare demand by February 10

The Ministry of Mines and Energy reported that distributors have until February 10 to declare their energy purchase needs for the New Energy Auction A-5, scheduled for July.

The competition will be exclusive to Hydroelectric Generating Plants (CGH), Small Hydroelectric Plants (PCH) and hydroelectric plants with capacity up to 50 MW. The objective is to contract energy from new projects to supply the regulated market of distributors, with supply starting on January 1, 2030.

Distributors must register their demands through the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE) system. The information provided must remain confidential, and any disclosure is prohibited until the bidding process is concluded. The declarations will be used to formalize the Energy Trading Contracts in the Regulated Environment (CCEAR).

According to the calculation of Canal Solar, the auction promises to be highly competitive, since there is a large number of interested parties and demand is expected to be limited. The Brazilian Clean Energy Association (ABRAGEL) estimates that there are around 9 GW in small plants with a basic project approved by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).
