A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) reported this Friday (19) that it will reinforce inspection actions on electricity distributors, after the blackout that left thousands of consumers without power for several days in São Paulo.

According to the Agency, a need for closer monitoring of the quality of service provided was identified, especially in the North and Southeast regions of the country. In this context, the ANEEL It approved the installation of new regional units in these locations and reported that it is also studying the creation of offices in the South and Northeast regions.

Furthermore, as an exceptional measure, the agency highlighted that it will assign employees to form an inspection task force in São Paulo between December 2025 and March 2026.

The actions will be carried out in coordination with ARSESP (São Paulo State Public Services Regulatory Agency) and will focus on monitoring the provision of energy distribution services in the state.

According to ANEELStrengthening oversight will require additional budgetary support to cover the costs of implementing the new regional units, as well as expanding the Agency's staff. The demands related to strengthening operational capacity and improving services to consumers have already been communicated to the Federal Government.

The Agency also reported that the creation of a Crisis Committee is under discussion, with the objective of coordinating institutional actions in response to the impacts of severe weather events that may occur until March 31, 2026. All initiatives have been formally communicated to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and ARSESP.
