After recording the smallest budget in the last ten years, ANEEL The National Electric Energy Agency (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica) had part of its resources released by the Federal Government. The measure, formalized by Decree No. 12.566, published on July 30, reduced the Agency's contingency from R$38,6 million to R$7,9 million.

According to an official note from ANEEL, the easing of contingency represents an important step forward, even though most of the funding is expected to be released only in December. The expectation is that this budgetary relief will allow the gradual resumption of essential activities in the electricity sector.

With the partial budget available, the Agency's Board of Directors is evaluating the prioritization of services considered critical, such as the ombudsman's office, oversight, and in-person assistance at its headquarters. According to the statement, further steps should be announced in the coming days.

In June, the Canal Solar showed that the ANEEL and other energy sector regulatory agencies, such as ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), ANA (National Water Agency) and CNPE (National Energy Policy Council), were facing severe budget cuts planned for 2025.

The amount of R$ 64,1 million allocated to ANEEL at the beginning of the year, it represented a 40% reduction compared to 2024—the lowest level in a decade. Even with the partial release, the Agency emphasizes that the schedule for 2025 will still be restrictive.

“A ANEEL thanks once again the support of society, the Legislative Branch, the productive sector, the electrical sector and, in particular, all civil servants, leaders and collaborators in this challenging time”, highlights the release.

The agency also reiterated its commitment to the continuity and quality of services provided, even in the face of imposed limitations. The electricity sector now awaits the board's next decisions on the activities that will be prioritized until the end of the year.
