Fiocruz (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation), one of the leading public health, science and innovation institutions in Latin America, has signed a contract with EDP for the supply of renewable energy through the Free Energy Market, in the retail modality.
The partnership provides for the supply of an average of 1,30 MW, totaling 32.340 MWh between 2026 and 2028, for the Eusébio campus in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza (CE). The contract also includes the annual issuance of I-RECs, certificates that prove the renewable origin of the energy consumed.
The expectation is that the hiring will generate approximately 18% savings for the institution. During the same period, the initiative should prevent the emission of approximately 1,5 tons of CO₂.
According to Ana Beatriz Alves Cuzzatti, general coordinator of Campus Infrastructure at Fiocruz, the agreement represents progress for the organization by combining operational efficiency, sustainability, and responsibility in the management of public resources.
“In addition to cost reduction, contracting energy from renewable sources strengthens the institutional commitment to environmentally responsible practices and is aligned with the guidelines of Cogic's Sustainable Infrastructure Logistics Plan, which seeks to promote innovative and sustainable solutions for the Foundation's infrastructure,” she said.
