According to data from EPE (Energy Research Company), national electricity consumption was 44.972 GWh in June 2025, a drop of 1,4% compared to June 2024. This is the third consecutive monthly drop in national consumption.

Only the industrial class saw an increase in consumption, with an annual rate of 0,7% in June 2025. The residential (-0,8%), commercial (-4,4%) and other (-4,1%) classes saw a decline in consumption.

Regionally, the North (+3,0%) stood out. The Northeast (+0,6%) and South (+0,5%) also consumed more, while the Southeast (-3,8%) and Central-West (-0,3%) were responsible for the contraction in consumption. The increase in the South region stands out due to the low comparative base with June 2024, when Rio Grande do Sul's consumption was affected by floods in the state.

National consumption accumulated over the last 12 months was 562.943 GWh, an increase of 2,1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regarding the contracting environment, the free market, with 20.639 GWh, accounted for 45,9% of national electricity consumption in June 2025, with growth of 6,5% in consumption and 52,8% in the number of consumers, compared to June 2024.

The Northeast and South were the regions that expanded consumption the most (+11,2%), while the Central-West had the largest increase in the number of free consumers (+76,2%).

The regulated distributor market, with 24.332 GWh, which accounted for 54,1% of national consumption, saw a 7,3% drop in consumption and a 1,6% increase in the number of consumers in June 2025.

In the regulated market, the North recorded the smallest decline in consumption (-0,3%) among the regions, while the South region had the largest increase in the number of captive consumers (+2,5%).

According to EPE, the migration movement of captive consumers to the free market remains intense after opening to all consumers in group A (high voltage) in January 2024, established in the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) ordinance no. 50/2022.
