O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) authorized, last Friday (19), the signing of the second contract of the Mais Luz para a Amazônia Program, with the objective of installing photovoltaic systems to serve families who do not have access to electricity in areas isolated from the State.
The new contract will be executed by the distributor Amazonas Energia and should guarantee the supply of electricity to 259 families in nine communities in Manaus and to another 342 communities in Beruri, Boca do Acre, Canutama, Lábrea, Pauini and Tapauá, where 4.121 families live without access. to the light. The distributor will have 12 months to install the systems.
In total, R$209 million will be invested, of which R$188 million will be subsidized resources from the Federal Government and R$21 million will be company resources. After installing the systems, Amazonas Energia remains responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment in operation.
Use of renewable energies
O More Light for the Amazon Program was created with the aim of using renewable sources of electrical energy generation, mainly photovoltaic systems, to replace small diesel or gasoline electrical energy generators, which today are the only source of electrical energy for many families living in regions remote.
The main objective is to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the sustainable use of Amazon Forest resources. Since its creation, the program has allocated resources to projects aimed at serving households located in remote regions of the Legal Amazon, and prioritizing the social nature of the investment.
