More than R$50 billion in solar energy will be invested in Minas Gerais

A photovoltaic solar energy in Brazil already has more than 21 GW of installed power in the sum of DG (distributed generation) and GC (centralized generation), being Minas Gerais the leading state in both segments. 

For 2023, os mining municipalities should have even more protagonism in the sector with more than R$50 billion in photovoltaic projects already formalized, according to information from Invest Minas – investment promotion agency of the State of Minas Gerais. 

According to the entity, one of the reasons that explains the fact that Minas Gerais is a leader in the solar GC and DG segments is its metallurgical, steel and electronics vocation, which has a robust industrial park with the capacity to develop technologies, machines and equipment for the sector. 

Another point mentioned by the Agency is the state's technical-scientific structure, with a large number of technical colleges and public universities, with workforce training already accustomed to the solar energy sector and a portfolio of scientific research in the field of environmental and social sustainability. 

Current numbers

According to data from the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the state of Minas Gerais counts today with more than 3,8 GW of operational power solar energy in the GD and GC segments. 

Em distributed mini and micro generation projects, there are 2,16 GW and just over 195 thousand systems connected to the grid in all 853 municipalities, benefiting almost 260 thousand UCs (consumer units). 

Already the large mining plants total 1,64 GW of power, coming from 55 projects in operation. The state is also currently awaiting the entry into operation of another 29,3 GW through projects with construction already started or not yet started.
