Piauí invests in project to expand renewable capacity

According to the state government, the objective is to attract investments from other regions of Brazil and abroad

The state of Piauí is looking for alternatives to increasingly invest in clean and sustainable energy. This is because the government announced that it held a meeting this month to discuss the preparation of the state's Renewable Energy Atlas.

According to the state government, this document will be a tool for attracting investments, demonstrating the projects installed, those already underway and all the potential that the territory of Piauí has.

“The Piauí atlas of wind and solar renewable energy must contain the maximum amount of information to serve as subsidies for investors and ensure that anyone in Brazil and the world can have technical data and, based on secure information, can work under the conditions investment,” said Governor Wellington Dias.

According to him, ABEeolica (Brazilian Wind Energy Association) and ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy) are willing to work with the state on this atlas, which will show the locations with the greatest potential, available areas, environmental conditions, sunlight incidence and wind speed. “Information that will help investors to awaken interest in investing in Piauí,” added Dias.

Wilson Brandão, Secretary of State for Mining, Petroleum and Renewable Energies, highlighted that Piauí is considered one of the Brazilian states that is undergoing rapid development and one of those that is building the most in the renewable energy sector.

Attraction of investments

According to the government, a line is being built by the company Celeo that goes from Teresina towards Tianguá, which is part of that region. In total, R$1 billion will be invested.

“We are at an advanced stage. Celeo is working on an investment in the area of solar energy, a novelty for our region, with robust, larger projects, which help to discover a new frontier for solar and wind energy, due to the presence of this line”, commented the governor.

“The energy generated in Pedro II, Domingos Mourão and São Miguel do Tapuio, with the presence of this line, means that what is produced in this region can be sold anywhere in the world”, he concluded.

Solar energy in Piauí

Data from ABSOLAR pointed out that Piauí is in 14th place in the state ranking of distributed solar photovoltaic generation, with 83,4 MW of power – which represents 2% of the installed capacity in Brazil.
